During the widespread heat of summer, how do cattle in feedlots stay cool?
To answer that question, this video is from my friend, Joan, who owns and operates a beef feed yard in Nebraska. She told me that there is always plenty of room for the cattle in the yard to move around, but they like to bunch together – especially when they eat.
To help mitigate the risk of sickness or fatigue when it is so hot out, Joan makes sure the animals have plenty of water and dry lots. Her family also uses something else to keep the cattle cool…misters near the feed bunk (reminds me of vacation to amusement parks…cattle get their own kind of amusement park at Joan’s feed yard!).
